Our first stop will be Metropolitan Natural Park. It is amazing that this now protected natural reserve is actually located inside the city limits of Panama City. As part of the watershed that not only serves as the resource of drinking water for all of Panama City & Colon, it also has an important role in maintaining the water levels for the Panama Canal to properly function. Needless to say, this has created a safe haven for hundreds of mammals, birds, and amazingly dense jungle fauna.
We will spend an hour and a half seeking out monkeys, iguanas, toucans, woodpeckers and many other critters that make Metropolitan Natural Park their home before heading across town to discover the critters that make the ocean and rocky shores of Punta Culebra their home.
Punta Culebra is a marine discovery center that is sure to be enjoyed by everyone. Housed on ex-military facilities, Punta Culebra is operated by the Smithsonian Research Institute and is a full functioning marine research site. Wanting to increase the public's awareness of the delicate coastal and marine life that needs our protection to sustain, they provide naturalist guided tours to the public through the multiple temporal and permanent exhibits including:

Insider Tips: Our strongest recommendation is to start your day off with the hike to La India Dormida. There is no better way to take in the beauty of El Valle than from the ridgeline traverse. It is not a difficult hike, we go at everyone's pace, and the payoff from the top is well worth the short climb. You will also have the opportunity for some wildlife viewing and additional waterfalls and petroglyphs not seen by most tourists arriving on the big bus tours.
*Optional Activities: Aside from the optional activities above, we can also add a beach stop to the tour. Let us know that you are interested and we can try to arrange it. This is an additional cost and would add a couple additional hours to the day, but a great opportunity to check out the regions coastline before returning to the city.
