El Valle de Anton Panama Explorer
Three million years ago the Volcano erupted and created a crater over 5km in diameter sculpting what is now El Valle de Anton ( Anton Valley ) and contributing to its vast biodiversity. The indigenous Ngobe-Bugle realized this and flocked to El Valle de Anton thousands of years ago. Today, most Panamanians flock to El Valle on the weekends to escape their urban life in trade for the fresh air and natural surroundings that El Valle offers thanks to its perpetual spring-like weather. Let us take you to explore El Valle de Anton and you will quickly understand why.
Heading west out of Panama City, we will take the Inter-American Highway along the coast to Province of Cocles before heading inland and ascending into El Valle de Anton. Enjoy breathtaking views and amazing photo ops as we make our way into the tiny town of Anton. From here there are several options of activities to fill your day depending on your interests and your physical condition. We will customize the tour itinerary according to the group's consensus but include the following
Take an easy to moderate hike up to the ridgeline of La India Dormida and take in the breathtaking views of the valley before ascending into the forest with chances of wildlife viewing, waterfalls, and petroglyphs not seen by most tourists. (our personal favorite )
Visit to the Nispero Zoo, home of the Golden Frog conservation project and a few other exotic and indigenous tropical animals that have been rescued over time.
A chance to shop for some souvenirs in the Handicraft Market, one of the largest in Panama and carries crafts from primarily Ngobe-Bugle however some Embera & Wounaan crafts as well along with local artisans from the region
Experience the healing powers of the volcanic soil by taking a mud bath
Discover the mysterious secrets of the Petroglyphs of the Piedra Pintada and take a dip in the nearby waterfalls
Obviously there are enough activities to fill up most anyone's day, however if you are looking for something more we have a couple of optional activities available for an additional cost.
- Zipline Tour $55*
- 2 Hour Horseback Ride Tour $20*

Insider Tip: Our strongest recommendation is to start your day off with the hike to La India Dormida. There is no better way to take in the beauty of El Valle than from the ridgeline traverse. It is not a difficult hike, we go at everyone's pace, and the payoff from the top is well worth the short climb. You will also have the opportunity for some wildlife viewing and additional waterfalls and petroglyphs not seen by most tourists arriving on the big bus tours.
Optional Activities: Aside from the optional activities above, we can also add a beach stop to the tour. Let us know that you are interested and we can try to arrange it. This is an additional cost and would add a couple additional hours to the day, but a great opportunity to check out the regions coastline before returning to the city.
Bonus!! If you insist on fitting everything into one trip, we can also arrange overnight options. We can provide recommendations based on any budget. Please just note on your reservations that you are interested so we can check availability, provide options and make arrangements.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! If you are not a Panamanian citizen, you MUST have your passport on you at all times in Panama.
